A visit from a friend

We all enjoyed the company of Rosie who spent a few days with us while her mum & dad got married.

She didn't want to play much at the start so we had to amuse ourselves. She quickly learnt were the biscuits were kept though and we had to share We then all decided there were no more biscuits so we may as well go in out of the cold We all got on well after this and particularly when we went for a run round the fields. Unfortunately she couldn't stay with us and she had to go home as her mum and dad came to collect her.

Thursday 30 July 2009

This is Sunni She was the first English setter that Jenny and I had together although we had previously rescued an Irish setter. Many years ago before I met Jenny I had had an english setter and once you have had one they leave their mark. Sunni certainly did that with us and has resulted in us now owning five setters. Unfortunately Sunni is no longer with us as she passed away soon after Shane arrived in January 2008 but she lives on in our hearts and she will never be forgotten. Strangely enough Shane has brought some of her carachteristics with him and he ofeten reminds os of her in some of the things that he does.

The two sisters

This is Gemma & Jodi they are sisters from the same litter and came to us in December 2001. We gotthe locally from Tudorfield setters of Barrowby.
They have always been together and are like two peas in a pod yet so different in their personalities. They regularly argue but when the were younger the played together constantly chasing each other round the hose and throwing themselves onto the furniture. The are now nearly eight years old and tend to be a couple of old spinsters and often remain aloof from the other dogs.

Shane

Shane came to us via English setter rescue. He has been with us since December 2007. He is a show type setter.
When he first arrived he was very timid and was very wary of me he was far closer to Jenny probably because of the food which he certainly likes. It took about six months for him to settle down
Shane has really settled down now and has become one of the family, first on to the sofa at nights and only reluctantly gets up to go to bed. Last year we went to a local Steam Rally where there were a number of large fairground organs playing. He was totally bemused by them and a number of owners commented that they had never seen a dog so captivated by the display. We had to drag him away in the end. He also made friends with a guy giving a falconry display. Shane was intrigued by the bird's wing that he found in his bag which he used as a lure for the birds. Then, to top it all, he found a Macaw that was making quite a racket. Again Shane sat down and would not be moved. He is such an aware dog and doesn't miss a thing. If a bird call comes on TV, even if he is asleep, he immediately springs up and sits peering at the TV, oblivious to anything going on around him. He is a joy to watch and a constant source of entertainment. He makes us laugh but gets quite upset if he thinks you are laughing at him.He is such a fantastic dog and we could not wish for a more loving affectionate addition to the family.

Dillon

This is Dillon who came to us in July 2008 He was bread by Simon Pitts at Wandsfell English Setters. He is a beauty and could be classed as my boy. He is a very affectunate dog and likes a cuddle. He regularly comes a sits on the sofa at the side of you and pushes his head under your chin. His next best mate after Jenny and I is Ross who he plays with most of the time but there are occasions when he gets fed up with the little upstart and needs to go and hide from him.
Dillon will be 2 years old in November.

This is Ross the latest addition

This is ross he is a rescued dog and came to us in January 2009 He is a working setter and is smaller than the other show types that we have. He is about 12 months old and is a real live wire he is never tired and constantly seeks attention either from Jenny and I or Dillon who is his favorite pal. These two play together all the time from five in the morning till midnight each day with no let up at the weekends.
